Arab ”Russian” dolls

The last trunk unpacked was filled with these funky Arab dolls, the kind where the biggest doll contains all the others. There are sheiks and sheikhas in a variety of robes and veils, in masses of colours, all with different facial expressions. Pretty cute really.

I have listed a few on an internet auction site and we’ll see how that goes. All our crazy schemes seem to be coming together in a perfect storm – Gavin is off on a big (well paid) assignment that will keep him busy until the World Cup in June. Then six weeks off because we sure as hell aren’t working while there is soccer on!

After that a trip to Iran is on the cards to restock our ‘showroom’, with a big sale planned during the holiday season at the end of the year. We will open our ‘pop-up’ shop to the public and, hopefully, sell what we have shipped in.

It’s all a bit hard-scrabble, but that’s nothing new, and we have enough money to not even think about having to sell our house until next year. Right now next year seems far enough away for me to enjoy the upcoming Cape winter, and dream about the summer to follow.

Pop-up-Shop / Showroom aka the loft room upstairs. Note the gorgeous painted tin trunks, known in India as baksa. These ones come from Pakistan.

Wow! It’s amazing to hear that everything’s coming together so wonderfully for you. I’m just irritable I can’t make it to your pop-up showroom to do some shopping!

You never know Lisa, a trip to the Garden Route might be a good week end break!
We’re getting out first winter rain. I hope it came from Cape Town and that your grass is growing like crazy.

What a wonderful assortment. And lookie there – on the right, behind the disrobed lady. I see something that isn’t blue 😉

Aren’t you going to engage in some shameless self-promotion and let us know of the auction site? Aw, pu-leeeeeeze?

You make me laugh ms acres! I have just sold two sets of dolls on auction this very minute. It’s a great site and I will indulge in some shameless promotion. I am going to list more over the coming weeks – great to have a virtual retail space. This site is Bid or Buy.
