Cupcakes and Whale watching

Just in case you need another reason to go to the wildly beautiful Goukamma beach, here it is – Chef Alma’s cupcakes.

Chef Alma’s has opened in the spot that used to be Peridot’s (I know it’s been something else since, but I can’t remember the name!), on the road to Lake Pleasant beach.

The cupcakes are divinely moist and smothered in chocolate ganache. At R10 (US$1.50) they’re an affordable recession treat. Eat them at the restaurant accompanied by an excellent cup of coffee, or get a few as takeaways and savour them on the bench at the end of the wooden walkway as you do your whale spotting.

Oh, dear. This, just as I’ve made August 1 the beginning of the great slim-down effort. How can ten pounds be so hard to get rid of?

You know, of course, the problem in linking these two things. If I trotted off with a few of those cupcakes, I’d continue becoming one of those whales – never mind watching them!

You’re right to describe Goukamma as wildly beautiful, though. I just went and peered at a few photos. My goodness. You’ve got so much beauty around you the cupcakes really aren’t necessary!

No, no, no Linda. You can’t slim as you go into fall and winter. . . you need that tiny bit of extra padding for hibernation! I prescribe a cup cake a day until spring.

    Hi Jeannine,
Thank you for your review on our cupcakes and we love them too! Also trying not to add more weight on. Not easy living with a chef of Alma’s standard, having to say no to all these nice treats every day! LOL
It’s refreshing to read your blog.(never been a blog person before)
    Next time come say hi.

I can imagine Peter! Living with Alma must be a mixed blessing – but I think I’d manage just fine.
Your place is lovely and I know you are going to do well. My mom and five friends celebrated her birthday at Chef Alma’s with coffee and cup cakes on Thursday. They all had a fabulous time!
